House of Hope was initially the vision of John Nakara, a friend of SERV since our first trip to Lodwar, Kenya. John is Turkana, a native of this remote desert region. John was orphaned as a young child, sponsored by a U.S. based organization, and is now an educated, Christian man known to everyone as Missionary John.
Because of John’s experiences as a child, he felt an obligation to ‘give back’ and care for orphans, just as others had done for him. He and his wife adopted children, but he also knew God was calling him to do more. John spent much time in prayer, seeking someone to come alongside him and help fulfill the vision. October 2007 - John shared his vision with a SERV team. The team prayed and almost immediately felt that God was calling SERV to partner with John to fulfill the dream of House of Hope. April 2008 - The SERV team returned to Kenya with the intention of purchasing a small piece of property and beginning construction. However, God had plans beyond our imagination! When they left Lodwar, SERV was the owner of 33 acres and a facility that perfectly fit the needs of a children’s home. August 2008 – A SERV team travels to Kenya to dedicate House of Hope Children’s Home. SERV became the proud parent of 15 beautiful children! Today, House of Hope is home to 20 children and soon, due to such a great need in the area, more children will be joining the family. House of Hope Child Sponsorship Program Child sponsorship gives YOU the power to make a difference in the life of a child. Through your sponsorship, you will provide for a child's needs, ensure that your sponsored child receives an education, and know that your child is cared for in a loving, Christian environment. |
